The Federal Government has commenced a fresh and expanded trial involving over 400 terrorism suspects in Abuja as part of ongoing efforts to address national security challenges and clear a growing backlog of terrorism-related cases.

According to officials from the Ministry of Justice, the trials are being conducted in multiple batches to ensure proper judicial review and to speed up the prosecution process. The suspects are linked to various terrorism-related activities across different regions of the country, including insurgency, armed violence, and support networks for extremist groups.

Security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and other intelligence units, have increased coordination to ensure tight security around the trial proceedings. Authorities say the move is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s criminal justice system and improving national security response.

The Attorney-General of the Federation emphasized that the government remains

committed to ensuring due process while also delivering justice for victims of terrorism. He added that faster trials will help decongest detention facilities and restore public confidence in the justice system.

Security analysts have described the development as a major step in Nigeria’s counterterrorism strategy, noting that efficient prosecution is essential to deterring future crimes and strengthening national stability.
