The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is facing challenges distributing Permanent
Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Vanguard newspaper reports that INEC is struggling to get 14 million PVCs to voters. The issue
dominated newspaper headlines on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
At the same time, INEC has identified 268 voter records with alleged Artificial Intelligence-generated
photographs and other irregularities. The commission is cleaning the preliminary voters register ahead
of 2027 polls, according to New Telegraph.
INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan said on Monday that Artificial Intelligence is not a threat to
democracy. Former INEC Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega urged INEC to deploy AI-generated
chatbots to give voters verified electoral information and counter misinformation.
Other headlines: President Tinubu offered prayers at the Ka’aba in Makkah, reaffirming commitment to
Project Nigeria. Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang defended Tinubu, saying he inherited Nigeria on the
brink of collapse, with foreign reserves just over $3 billion, and that the Buhari administration sold future
crude.
The National Assembly has proposed that presidential and governorship elections be held in November
2026 instead of February/March 2027 to allow time for litigation before swearing-in. The proposal is in
the draft amendment to Electoral Act 2022.
