The Nigerian military has announced that it has no plans to enter into a ceasefire agreement with Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
According to military officials, security operations against the armed groups will continue, particularly in the northeastern part of the country, where attacks on military positions have increased in recent weeks.
Speaking during an intelligence briefing in Abuja, military spokesperson Major-General Samaila Uba explained that security forces had recorded some progress, including the arrest of suspects, rescue of hostages and elimination of insurgents.
He also assured Nigerians that the military would continue working to improve security and prevent further attacks.
