A 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, has been remanded in custody after he was accused of sexually assaulting two girls, aged eight and nine, during Quranic classes in Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
Sani, who teaches at an Islamic school in Numan, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate’s Court I in Yola on charges including indecent treatment, sexual assault and defilement.
According to the police, Sani allegedly lured the two children to an area behind the school classrooms while they were attending Quranic recitation classes and sexually assaulted them.
The matter was reportedly brought to the attention of the police after the mother of one of the alleged victims filed a complaint at the Divisional Police Headquarters in Numan on August 7, 2026.
Prosecuting police officer ASP Zakka Musa told the court that the complaint concerned allegations that the teacher sexually assaulted the two girls during their attendance at the Islamic school.
Defendant Pleads Not Guilty
The charges were read and explained to Sani in court, after which he pleaded not guilty.
Following his plea, ASP Musa requested an adjournment to allow the police to forward the case diary to the Adamawa State Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
The court granted the application and ordered that Sani remain in custody pending further proceedings.
Case Under Investigation
The case is expected to proceed after the police complete their investigation and obtain legal advice from the DPP.
The allegations against Sani have not been established in court. He remains presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty by a competent court.
