The University of Benin has acknowledged receiving N145.98 million from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund for 1,454 students under the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a letter dated July 7, 2026, signed by Registrar Bimpe Omoyiwola and addressed to NELFUND Managing Director Akintunde Sawyerr, the university confirmed the funds arrived in three tranches, an initial N92.75 million paid to 910 students on April 15, 2026, followed by N35.18 million on May 7 for 358 students, and a final N18.04 million on June 9 for 186 more beneficiaries.
The three payments brought the total received under the additional tranches to N145,975,250, benefiting 1,454 students in all.
Omoyiwola described the initiative as invaluable in widening access to affordable tertiary education for Nigerian students, expressing the university’s appreciation to both NELFUND and the beneficiaries.
She assured the agency of UNIBEN’s continued commitment to transparency, accountability and strict compliance with the guidelines governing the student loan scheme.
