United Kingdom has ruled that a 27-year-old Nigerian woman, Beatrice Solomon, died by suicide after enduring a prolonged struggle with her mental health.
The conclusion was reached during an inquest into the death of the mother of one, who was found unresponsive at her home on Norris Road, Stoke-on-Trent, on 4 March 2026.
Her husband, Damian Michael Butler, told the hearing that he had left for work as a delivery driver that morning but returned home a short while later, where he discovered Beatrice unconscious. Emergency responders were called to the property, but paramedics confirmed she had died at the scene.
A police investigation found no evidence of foul play or the involvement of any third party.
Giving evidence at the inquest, Damian said his wife had been battling mental health difficulties for about a year. He explained that the challenges were linked to ongoing issues involving Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
He also told the court that he later became aware she had made two previous attempts to end her life.
A post-mortem examination established that Beatrice died from oxygen deprivation.
Delivering her findings, Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor concluded that Beatrice had died by suicide. The coroner said the evidence presented during the hearing showed that she had researched and planned how to end her life before her death.
Originally from Nigeria, Beatrice relocated to Stoke-on-Trent in November 2023, where she worked as a carer while building a new life in the UK.
She is survived by her young son and her siblings, whose lives have been deeply affected by the tragic loss.
